Italy employers welcome weakening euro

ROME, Feb 8 (Reuters) - The declining value of the euro is helping Italy's exports and Italy does not appear at risk of the sort of debt-related difficulties seen by Greece, Portugal and Spain, the head of employers' association Confindustria said on Monday.

'The euro at these levels helps our exports,' Emma Marcegaglia said at an economic conference in Milan.

On Friday the euro fell below $1.36 for the first time since May 2009 due to market concern over rising deficits in the economically weakest euro zone countries. The single currency was trading just below $1.37 at 1540 GMT on Monday.

Marcegaglia said Italy, which has low private debt and has conducted a prudent fiscal policy during the economic crisis of the last two years, would not suffer the same sharp rise in its bond yields as seen by other mediterranean euro zone members.

'It seems to me that this time Italy is not at risk, that is important,' she said. Keywords: ITALY CONFINDUSTRIA/EURO
